In December 2024, an airstrike by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) on a market in Kebkabiya killed at least 42 civilians and injured dozens more. Amnesty International condemned the attack as a flagrant war crime.
Following their takeover, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and their allied Arab militias have allegedly committed war crimes against civilians in and around Kebkabiya. Reports indicate that the RSF have targeted African ethnic groups, including the Fur and Zaghawa, with killings, rapes, and abductions. The RSF has denied accusations of targeting civilians.
